Puerto Rican exodus to U.S. related to both world wars
Tagged: citizenship, Puerto Rican, Puerto RicoPosted on: October 8th, 2007“The presence of Puerto Ricans in the continental United States is related to both world wars.
In 1917, Puerto Ricans were granted American citizenship, which allowed the United States to recruit and bring many young Puerto Ricans to join the army fighting in World War I.
When the United States became involved in World War II as a response to the Japanese attack at Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941, Puerto Ricans began to migrate en masse to South Jersey.”
