Victorious Chile was given the southern Peruvian provinces of Arica and Tacna. Not until 1928, in an agreement involving the United States, did Tacna go back to being a part of Peru.
During the Chilean occupation, rich families lost their fortunes and many Peruvians were forced to find employment elsewhere.”
