“When Alberto Martinez left Mexico City for Pittsburgh in 1997, he looked for an authentic taste of home.

“We tried to find a place that had Mexican food, but we couldn’t find one,” said Martinez, who lives in Beechview. “That’s why we decided to open a restaurant here.”

With his business partner, Agustin Garcia, Martinez opened a restaurant in 2005 called Mexico City at 111 Smithfield St., Downtown. It has done so well that they opened a second location Monday blocks away on Wood Street.”
