“The Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute (CHCI) today announced a new partnership between Dell Computers and Microsoft to provide 105 Dell notebook computers, loaded with Microsoft software, to its undergraduate scholarship recipients in 2007.

“This commitment from Dell and Microsoft will allow our dynamic Latino college students to have the technological capabilities to be successful in their studies,” said Esther Aguilera, CHCI President and CEO. “Dell and Microsoft have effectively doubled the value of our college scholarship program for undergraduate students.”

“Dell has a long-standing relationship with the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute,” said Andy Esparza, Sr. Vice President, Human Resources, Dell Inc. “We are committed to helping these students prepare for the 21st century and become our future leaders.”

”Microsoft understands the need for today’s youth to have access to technology in order to realize their full potential,” said Jack Krumholtz, Managing Director for Federal Government Affairs at Microsoft. “We are thrilled to partner with Dell to offer a packaged technology solution to the CHCI’s 2007 scholarship recipients.”

CHCI scholars will receive a Dell Inspiron Digital Entertainment notebook computer, valued at $1,525, offering the latest in Intel® technology and wireless networking capability. Scholars will have access to 24 hour telephone and online Dell technical support. Additionally, Microsoft is providing its new Microsoft Vista operating system, Microsoft Student, Microsoft Money, and the full Microsoft Office 2007 suite of programs, including Word, PowerPoint, Excel Outlook, OneNote, Access, Accounting, and Publisher. The software package is valued at $730 for each scholarship recipient.

With more than $1.5 million in need-based scholarships awarded to college students since 2001, CHCI’s grants are available to Latino students enrolled in a two or four year accredited college or university. Students pursuing an associate, bachelor or graduate degree may apply for annual scholarships in the amounts of $1,000, $2,500 and $5,000 respectively.”
