New Census Data Reports An Additional 1.4 Million Hispanics in the U.S. are Uninsured Bringing Total to 15.3 Million

WHAT:
AVISO, An Update on the Hispanic Uninsured and How Pfizer Helps, a brief update on the general state of uninsured Hispanics in the U.S. and how the Pfizer patient assistance program helps improve access to its medicines for people without prescription coverage. The update will be distributed to all attendees of the Congressional Hispanic Caucus Institute’s Public Policy Conference and to Hispanic Congressional leaders in Washington.

WHY:
There are more than 15 million uninsured Hispanics in the United States, according to 2006 statistics published in August by the U.S. Census Bureau. With a total uninsured rate of 34.1 percent, Hispanics in the U.S. have a higher risk of being uninsured compared to any other ethnic group. Concerned about the growing uninsured rate within the Hispanic community, Pfizer is highlighting the problem as reported by the recently released (August 2007) Current Population Report of the U.S. Census Bureau, and increasing general awareness about its patient assistance program among Latino leaders. For more than 20 years, Pfizer has been helping patients in need get access to its medicines. Since 2004, this assistance has been provided through Pfizer Helpful Answers – a family of programs that has helped over 5 million patients receive 50 million Pfizer prescriptions over the last five years. However, many Hispanics who may qualify for the program are still unaware of Pfizer Helpful Answers and other similar patient assistance programs that can help them obtain the medicines they may need to treat their health conditions.
