Knowledge is Power!

“Had she not died in 1954, at age 47, Mexican artist Frida Kahlo would have celebrated her 100th birthday this year.

But that hasn’t stopped her admirers from celebrating it for her. Kahlo’s centennial has been marked in her native Mexico (at the prestigious Museo del Palacio de Bellas Artes in Mexico City) and around the world. Here in Long Beach, Mattie Gomez, proprietor of Picture This Gallery and Custom Framing, celebrated by sending out a call to artists (and fellow Frida fans) to send in their artistic renditions of the painter.

She got 100 entries. A panel of six jurors whittled that down to 27, and those are all on display at Gomez’s gallery, on Norse Way near LBCC, until Nov. 3.”
