“In an effort to combat illegal immigration, the Cabarrus County Sheriff’s Office will work with Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE) in a program that will begin in the county this year.

The program, called 287g, gives sheriff’s deputies ICE training and tools to identify inmates who are in the country illegally. Anyone who is deported under this program will face a minimum of five years in prison if they are found to be in the U.S. illegally again.”
