“Like blacks, Mexican-Americans were subjected to separate public facilities, such as tarnished water fountains, restrooms and movie theater balconies.

Margaret Hernandez, a 72-year-old Midland native, remembers at age 7 being told to go to the back of a restaurant where she wanted a hamburger. Hernandez recalled she and a friend walking through an alley to place their order.

Dolores Tucker, 74, has been a Midland resident since 1954 and remembers going to a Walgreens, where she was told to drink her Coke in the back along with the black people.”
