At Latino politics forum, GOP advised to tone down immigration rhetoric - Texas

“Texas Republicans said Friday that the harsh tone of the immigration debate could cost the party politically in 2008 by repelling Hispanics from the GOP.

“They are troubled by the tenor of the conversation,” said San Antonio media consultant Frank Guerra, who has advised campaigns for Gov. Rick Perry and former Florida Gov. Jeb Bush.

Luis Saenz of Austin, who was Mr. Perry’s campaign manager, said the governor was careful in last year’s re-election race to emphasize border security without divisive rhetoric.”
