Screen dreams – The first Portland Latin American Film Festival aims to boost Latino arts efforts in the area
Tagged: Film, latin america, Oregon, population, PortlandPosted on: September 20th, 2007“The work of Latino filmmakers premieres tonight during the first Portland Latin American Film Festival.
With it comes an effort to legitimize and promote Latino arts in the metro area, where — despite a booming Latino population — films, dance, plays, music, visual and literary arts from Latin America are often marginal players.
“There isn’t a forum for our creators,” said Maria Osterroth Sussman, organizer of the four-day festival. “We don’t know them. We can’t see them. This will give space for an exclusive showing of films — ones that have never been shown in Portland.”"
