“Documentarian Ken Burns told a National Press Club audience that no Hispanics came forward when he went to four towns looking for combat stories for his series “The War.”

Burns said Wednesday that he reached out to historical societies and veterans’ group, searched archives and announced his presence in the four towns his documentary focuses on: Waterbury, Conn.; Mobile, Ala.; Sacramento, Calif.; and Luverne, Minn.

But no Hispanic groups or veterans, Filipinos or women who served in the Army and Navy units known as WACS or WAVES contacted him or his crew.”
