Lawmakers blast green card replacement plan
Tagged: Chertoff, green card, joe baca, Michael ChertoffPosted on: September 19th, 2007“Lawmakers criticized Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff on Tuesday over a plan to require legal permanent residents to replace their green cards.
The lawmakers, led by Rep. Joe Baca, D-Calif., said cardholders are not being given adequate notice or time to replace the cards that would expire if not updated.
The lawmakers said they fear some residents with expired cards will be unable to work, unable to return to the U.S. after traveling outside the country or deported because they can’t prove they are citizens.”
