“The Hispanic College Fund is proud to announce that its sponsors have pledged nearly $80,000 in support of the 8th Annual Charity Golf Tournament which will take place on Monday, October 1, 2007 at the Squaw Creek Golf Course in Fort Worth, Texas.

The golf tournament will help raise funds to support the development and education of Latino youth aspiring to go to college. The tournament is being hosted and co-sponsored by the Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics for a third consecutive year and is expected to be the most successful event so far.

“We are astonished at the support from our sponsors and players,” said Neftali Ortiz, Chapter President, Society of Hispanic Professional Engineers at Lockheed Martin Aeronautics. “I can’t think of a more worthwhile activity to be a part of than the education of our youth.”

With two weeks to go, the event’s fundraising has already reached an all-time high, tripling the dollars that were raised last year. The event’s fundraising success is due to the participation of major companies such as the Platinum Sponsors: Lockheed Martin Aeronautics, Gulfstream, General Dynamics, Haskell, CB Richard Ellis, Orr Partners, Landow & Co.; the Gold Sponsors: Jenner & Block and Lockheed Martin Missiles & Fire Control; and the Silver Sponsors: Brown and Caldwell, Haworth, LSM, Lockheed Martin Simulation Training & Support, Tim Evans, Times Microwave Systems and the Hispanic College Fund’s Official Airline, Southwest Airlines.

“We are seeing the results of great collaboration and team work,” said Idalia P. Fernandez, President, Hispanic College Fund. “We have very dedicated sponsors and partners who have given their time and support to make this event a great success.”

With plans to expand its college access program to Texas in summer 2008, the Hispanic College Fund seeks to connect to Dallas/Fort Worth-based companies and organizations and form partnerships for the year-long programming of “Pathways” and the Texas Hispanic Youth Symposium. The Hispanic Youth Symposia are three-day regional programs that inspire and transform underserved, underperforming Latino high school students and prepares them for college and a career. Students also compete for scholarships which provide them an incentive to complete high school and enroll in college.

The Hispanic College Fund (HCF) is a private non-profit organization dedicated to developing the next generation of Hispanic professionals. Since its founding in 1993, the Hispanic College Fund has supported the education of more than 4,000 financially disadvantaged Hispanic students seeking careers in business, science, engineering and technology with over $9 million in grants. Through programs like the HCF Scholars Program, Hispanic Youth Symposium, Latinos on Fast Track (LOFT), HCF Connections and the Hispanic Young Professionals (HYP) Leadership Development Program, the Hispanic College Fund is enriching lives and building bridges for our future Hispanic leaders.
