“Young girls, ages 5 to 13, dressed up in their best sequined midriff-baring pants suits, brimmed with confidence as H-E-B Plus shoppers and judges evaluated their likeness to the late Tejano music star Selena on Saturday.

Beatriz Gonzalez, assistant district attorney and Selena judge, said Selena is a positive role model for young girls.

“She was an astute businesswoman and Grammy Award winner,” Gonzalez said. Selena also owned a boutique and designed clothing.”
