Only 50 to 60 percent of Latinos who start high school in Minnesota get a diploma
The term “Hispanomics” was coined in the mid-1980s. It referred to the anticipated growth of the Hispanic population and the corresponding significance the Latino community would have on our local, state, regional and national economies. The author of the term was Feliz Galaviz, a remarkable man who has done a great deal for the Hispanic community through his work in higher education.
It took 403 years after immigrants from Spain first settled in St. Augustine, Fla., in 1565 for the United States to proclaim Hispanic Heritage Week as an official annual national celebration. (and another 20 before it became a ‘month’)
State figures from 2004-2005 show that 73 percent of white non-Hispanic women in Oregon 40 or older had had a mammogram the past two years, while 66 percent of Latinas in the same age group had
