Hispanic Owned Bridal-Quince Magazine in Florida Goes Green

Tagged: , , , ,

Florida Weddings and Special Events Magazine, a Naples based, bilingual, bridal and quince publication has announced today it has joined forces to save our environment and our planet by becoming “Green,” and becoming the first Hispanic owned “Green” bridal and quince magazine of SW Florida.

The Magazine has joined their printer in the battle to help control Global Warming and will this way do their part to help protect our world for future generations. Their first “Green” issue will be released to their readers on September 18, 2007.

The magazine’s printer, AC Graphics has obtained triple certification in Florida from the Forest Stewardship Council (FSC), Sustainable Forestry Initiative (SFI), and PEFC Council (Program for the Endorsement of Forest Certification.) These three organizations are leading non-governmental organizations devoted to monitoring and encouraging the responsible management of the world’s forests.

Contrary to what many believe this is not recycled paper; this paper comes from well-managed forests and is manufactured by companies that adhere to strict environmental and socioeconomic standards through a chain of custody. Chain-of-Custody is a certified system to track wood coming from certified forests through the entire supply-chain: harvesting, pulp, paper production, shipping, distribution, and printing. In addition to providing the option of using green-certified paper, in addition to the paper coming from a controlled source, Florida Weddings and Special Events Magazine is now printed with vegetable-based inks in place of petroleum-based inks. Chemicals and inks used in no-green printers can be harmful to the air quality by emitting poisonous gases and chemicals into the atmosphere.

The paper being used in Florida Weddings and Special Events Magazine is a high quality paper, unlike recycled paper, which is post-consumer fiber coming from scrap, office wastepaper, and recovered fiber, FSC-certified paper is paper made from superior wood pulp from mill-maintained and harvested trees that is used for all forms of high-quality printed materials.

The FSC is an internationally recognized non-profit organization based in Bonn, Germany, founded in 1993. The SFI is a program founded in 1994 by members of the American Forest and Paper Association with the mission to certify forests that are managed in a sustainable manner. The PEFC is a global umbrella organization for the assessment of and mutual recognition of national forest certification schemes.
