The USHCC to Honor Joseph A. Reyes of Reyes Holdings, with the 2007 Hector Barreto, Sr. Award at the 2007 Annual Convention

“he United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce (USHCC) is proud to present Joseph A. Reyes with the 2007 Hector Barreto, Sr. Award at its 2007 Awards Dinner Gala. The ceremony will take place during the 2007 Annual USHCC Convention on Saturday, September 22nd, from 7:00PM – 9:30PM in the new Convention Center’s ballroom in San Juan, Puerto Rico.

“We are honored to pay tribute to the vision, passion and spirit of the late Hector Barreto, Sr. through this award to Joe Reyes,” said David C. Lizárraga, USHCC Chairman of the Board. “Mr. Barreto’s tireless dedication to promoting the interests of Hispanics throughout the country provided an enormous contribution to the development of the USHCC.”

The Hector Barreto, Sr. Award was established in 2005 to honor the legacy of the founding USHCC President. It is a lifetime achievement award given to the individual whose passion, dedication and commitment to the USHCC and the Hispanic business community personifies the spirit of the founding USHCC president, Hector Barreto, Sr.

“Joe Reyes has been a leader in the Hispanic community for decades. I remember seeing him at the Hispanic Chamber events from the very beginning when I was young and in attendance with my father,” said Michael Barrera, President and CEO United States Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. “Joe is well-known in the community for his quiet and committed dedication to helping others; whether it’s a friend in the Hispanic business community, his parish or the man on the street, Joe has led by example in his civic and charitable contributions.”

Joe Reyes is Chairman Emeritus, and a founder of, Reyes Holdings, L.L.C., one of the world’s foremost distributors of beverage and foodservice products. He fought in the Korean War, serving 10 years in the U.S. Navy as a Naval Aviator before settling in Washington DC with his wife Frances to raise their family. For over 50 years, Joe Reyes has driven the creation of successful service-oriented organizations while being a committed and contributing member of his community, as well as a devoted husband and proud father.

About the USHCC Hector Barreto, Sr. Award
The award was named in honor of Hector Barreto Sr., a Mexican immigrant, who became a renowned Kansas City businessman and a leading force, along with many others including Richard Barrera, father of current USHCC President and CEO, Michael L. Barrera, behind the creation of the USHCC in 1979. In addition to serving as the organization’s first president, Mr. Barreto co-founded the National Hispanic Leadership Conference, predecessor to the National Hispanic Leadership Agenda (NHLA), the largest coalition of national Latino organizations and leaders in the country today.
