Mexican leader to revamp tax system

“President Felipe Calderón is pushing an overhaul of Mexico’s tax system, which he blames for the country’s high poverty rate and creaking infrastructure.

In a country where tax evasion is rampant among both the rich and poor, Calderón says the government needs more money to professionalize its police forces, improve health care and schools, and build roads and water systems.”
