Council race tests Hispanic loyalties – Phoenix

“Five years ago, Laura Pastor and Michael Nowakowski baptized their children in a joint ceremony. Today, they’re locked in a heated race for the Phoenix City Council.

Pastor and Nowakowski are fighting for the chance to represent southwest Phoenix, the fastest-growing part of the city. Each is making a first run at elected office, backed by families that have deep ties to Phoenix’s Latinos – and to each other.”
