North Charleston City Leaders Reach Out To Hispanics – South Carolina

“Legal or illegal, if you’re living in North Charleston, Mayor Keith Summey says you’re a citizen there. Mayor Summey is considering creating ID cards for the illegal citizens living in his community. He says it’s all part of the City’s efforts to reduce the growing number of crimes against the growing hispanic community.

Mayor Summey says it’s not up to him to do something about the hispanics living illegally in his community. But he says it’s his job to protect them from being a criminals’ easy target. “Many times we are afraid because there are bad people,” says the man who lost his brother two weeks ago. Police say the murder was the result of a robbery. A crime hispanics in North Charleston are encountering all too often. More than 130 victimized so far this year, plus another 50 attempts. Mayor Keith Summey says he’s trying to get a hold of the problem. “We are each, whether legal or illegal, human beings,” says Summey. “
