“Hispanics traditionally have opposed cremation for religious and cultural reasons, but more are opting for it out of necessity and because they are becoming more informed and engrained into the mainstream culture. This mirrors a rising state and national trend in the general population toward more cremations.
However, leaders with the Virginia Asian Chamber of Commerce, the Islamic Center of Virginia and the Asian American Society of Central Virginia say their communities continue their tradition of not practicing cremation. But Hindus and Pakistanis embrace cremation, the leaders said.”
