“Three new officers were hired to join the Orangetown Police Department this summer, but it remains the only town police force in Rockland County without a Spanish-speaking officer.
The hiring of Spanish-speaking officers has been a hot-button issue in town, with critics charging that the town and police department have not done enough to diversify the police force and meet the needs of a changing population. Police and town officials counter that they are following hiring protocol by choosing candidates off the towns civil service list.”
