Mexican Equestrians: Long days, lonely nights for grooms at East Dorset horse show
Tagged: MexicoPosted on: August 20th, 2007“At 4:30 in the morning Adolfo Franco starts his days work. He begins by mucking stalls, then he feeds the horses, takes off their leg wraps and gets them ready to show. After 13 hours of intense manual labor, his work day finally ends at 5:30 p.m.
To most, Francos daily tasks would sound like some sort of nightmare, but for him, a 27-year-old horse groom from Mexico at the Vermont Summer Festival, it is a dream.
“People think youre crazy because its really hard work, but if you love it and it makes you happy, thats all that matters. Growing up, I always dreamed of working with horses.” said Franco, as he bit the wrapper off of a peppermint candy and fed it to a horse named Neil.”
