“Democrats are accusing the Defense and Treasury Departments of being miserly when it comes to contracting with minority-owned businesses for advertising services.

“The federal government is supposed to be doing everything it can to help minority businesses, yet the Departments of Defense and the Treasury are penny pinching and falling far short of federal goals,” Sen. Charles Schumer, D-N.Y. said in a statement.

A new congressional audit finds the two agencies contract with minority-owned advertising firms for less than 2 percent of their marketing needs. Schumer, Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid, D-Nev., and Sen. John Kerry, D-Mass., chairman of the Senate Small Business Committee, requested the Government Accountability Office study.”
