Between 2006 and 2011 Hispanic buying power is projected to grow a formidable 48%, to almost $1.2 trillion, according to data from The University of Georgia’s Selig Center for Economic Growth.
By 2012, nearly one person out of every six living in the United States will be of Hispanic origin.

Referring to the new immigration enforcement rules that Bush announced – “In certain industries and in certain states, there will be a very significant impact on the functioning of businesses or entire sectors,” said Deborah Meyers, a senior policy analyst at the Migration Policy Institute, a nonpartisan think tank. “Some employers are going to find themselves having to fire significant portions of their workforces, and I think there will be employees — some who are authorized and some who are not — who will find themselves out of a job.”
In May, Dr. Rivera-Barnes, a Spanish professor at Penn State Worthington Scranton campus, won the 2006 International Latino Book Award prize for best romance novel for her book, “Do Not Pass Go.”
