Tigers catch béisbol fever
Tagged: Detroit, Hispanic Chamber, latin america, MichiganPosted on: August 10th, 2007“The Tigers have six players from Latin American countries on the active roster — and even more on the 40-man roster. And of the nine starters on the American League All-Star team in July, six were Latino, including three Tigers Magglio Ordonez, Placido Polanco and Pudge Rodriguez.
“I just get so excited when I go to games and see people proudly wearing Ordonez and Rodriguez jerseys,” said Ray Lozano, executive director of the Michigan Hispanic Chamber of Commerce. “Normally they wouldnt try pronouncing their names, and theyre proudly wearing their jerseys on their back.”
That pride will be on display Saturday at Comerica Park when the Tigers honor the contributions of Latino players at Fiesta Tigres.”
