“City Councilman Hiram Monserrate sponsored the bill. He says it will help the city offer support to people who may be afraid of coming forward.
“The vision of this ID card is for it to be used by all New Yorkers whether you are a legal resident, a citizen, undocumented, it makes no difference,” said Monseratte. “We are a safer and healthier society when we as a municipality know who’s who.”
“We believe that the legislation that Councilman Monserrat introduced in front of the City Council is something just and that all the council members should support,” said Bronx Senator Ruben Diaz, Sr. “
