“Neglect and governmental indifference started the demise of Little Mexico. The current economic boom may finish it.

The traditional home of the citys Hispanic community reached its heyday more than 50 years ago. Its decline began in the 1960s with the construction of the Dallas North Tollway, which has its entrance on McKinnon Avenue – the heart of the citys largest barrio.

The little that remains is squeezed between the explosive growth of Uptown and Victory Place, growth that has greatly increased land values. Any lucrative offer could far exceed what a modest family business could earn in a year.”
