“When writer Sandra Cisneros was awarded a MacArthur Foundation “genius grant” in 1995, she explained it to her mother as “an Academy Award for your life.”
The iconic golden statuette has gotten a Mexican-style makeover on a poster for “Latin@ Genius: Locos, Dreamers and Visionaries,” a gathering of Latino MacArthur grant recipients slated for Oct 4-6 in San Antonio.
The poster was unveiled Wednesday at a news conference to announce the event, which will reunite Cisneros with 17 of her fellow “MacArturos” for a series of community dialogues about issues such as education, immigration and labor rights.”
