M.L.S. Teams Look to Advance in SuperLiga

“The four M.L.S. teams in the SuperLiga have not lost a match, and all four could advance to the next round. Only one club, Club América, the richest of the bunch, has been eliminated. A goal of the tournament for M.L.S. is to give its clubs a reasonable measuring stick against some top Mexican clubs, and also to show Hispanic fans in the United States that the league deserves their attention and support.

“A tournament like SuperLiga is a step in the right direction,” Kinnear said Monday, one of his rare days off, in a telephone interview. “The Mexican teams may be in their preseason, but they’re still good teams. What’s important for us is exposing our players to a different style of competition. I think it’s great.””
