“A Hispanic social service agency that has weathered financial problems and staff changes in recent years is on the rebound, its new leader said.

Juan A. Gomez, hired in March as executive director of Centro Las Americas, said he will work with area lawmakers to try to override Gov. Deval L. Patrick’s veto of $100,000 of work force training funding for the group.

Meanwhile, Mr. Gomez said a projected $160,000 deficit in Centro’s fiscal 2007 budget that ended June 30 was erased in time for the close of the fiscal year and the agency ended with a small surplus. “
