More Latinos are working at nurseries in Ohio

“Foreign-born Latinos now comprise nearly three-quarters of Ohios nursery-industry work force, with most workers earning less than $10 an hour, according to a new survey by Ohio State University.

The numbers showed a jump from 2003, when foreign-born Latino employment at Ohio nurseries was 60 percent, compared with 72 percent in the new findings.

“The Hispanic work force is obviously increasing dramatically” within that industry, said Hannah Mathers, one of the surveys authors.”
