Immigrants rush to beat fee increase - Denver

“After spending 20 years as a legal immigrant, Santiago Hernandez is finally applying for his U.S. citizenship. He wants the right to vote, the right to medical benefits, and the right to save money.

“I spend most of my life in the United States, so I think its the right time,” said Hernandez.

The right time because, starting July 30, fees will increase from $400 to $675 to file the lengthy paperwork for citizenship. “
