Senate OKs $3 billion to control Mexico border

“Anxious to improve its immigration enforcement credentials, the Senate added $3 billion Thursday to a homeland security spending bill to pay for new manpower, technology and fencing to bring the U.S.-Mexico border under operational control within two years.

Even before the $3 billion was added to the $38 billion homeland security spending bill, President Bush had threatened to veto the bill because it was $2 billion higher than he is willing to accept.”
