Immigration law hits students – Colorado
Tagged: Colorado, parents, studentPosted on: July 23rd, 2007“Colorado’s year-old immigration law – one of the nations most strict – has state colleges and universities applying different standards to students who want in-state tuition.
Some colleges and universities are charging U.S.-born Colorado students, whose parents are here illegally, out-of-state tuition while others are allowing them to pay the lower, in-state rate.
“A U.S. citizen should get in-state tuition, for heavens sake,” said Richard Geertz, tuition classification officer for the University of Colorado at Boulder. “There is a fear of doing the wrong thing. And those fears come down to denying the rights of citizens.”"
