Calle 13s rebellious genre-benders are party guys at heart
Tagged: Calle 13, Chicago, Illinois, Puerto RicanPosted on: July 17th, 2007“Call them stepbrothers from another planet. Rene Perez a k a Residente and Eduardo Cabra Visitante definitely hail from a different galaxy of Latin music.
Lumped into the reggaeton category because their sound rides on a foundation of that styles trademark “boom-chucka” beat, the Puerto Rican-born duo completely transcends the genre. By incorporating hip-hop, electronica, funk, jazz and excursions into other Latin styles such as tango, samba and norteno, Calle 13 avoids the sonic monotony that afflicts many reggaeton acts.
Anticipation ran high before the bands concert Saturday at the Congress Theatre.”
