Local immigration division can’t keep up with heavy workload – Norfolk, Virginia

“Current and former immigration agents as well as government and independent watchdog groups say the agency can’t keep pace.

“They are understaffed here,” said one federal prosecutor, who works closely with ICE agents. “They’ve been given a lot of responsibilities. It’s a big problem. Let’s face it.”

One February day, federal undercover agents waited at the Norfolk airport for their targets. Two men would be arriving from the West Coast carrying duffel bags full of marijuana.”
