“When Tom Evans heard that Wal-Mart would be moving in up the street in Cornelius, he knew that he had two options: sink or start practicing Spanish.

Last Friday, the long-time grocer was pleased and relieved to celebrate the one-year anniversary of his new business, Grande Foods.

Evans opened the store at 1619 Adair St., the same location of his company’s previous business, Hank’s, a Cornelius landmark which dated back to 1937.”
