“Four years in Miami can seem like a breeze, even with hurricanes. But these past years have not been any years, at least to me: I have had the honor of representing Mexico in Miami during one of the most interesting times both for Miami and the Mexicans who work and live here.
Within a relatively short period of time, Miami rode more than successfully the deceleration that affected the U.S. economy at the beginning of the century, partly thanks to the influx of monies escaping Latin American countries in trouble; enjoyed and suffered one of the most amazing expansions of real estate — the destination for most of the foreign capital; and endured two of the most active hurricane seasons on record. Little Havana, without losing any of its Cuban charms, is rapidly turning into Little Latin America. Europeans, taking advantage of a strong euro, are competing with Northeastern snowbirds for investment opportunities. And a cutting-edge performing-arts center is up and running.”
