“A trip-hop/salsa/rock band from the Bronx. A flamenco/tango/electronica act brewed in Barcelona. And a reggae/folk/ranchera ensemble that hails from Mexico.

How do you categorize such a broad range of genre-hoppers? Very carefully, it seems.

All the above bands - Pacha Massive, the Pinker Tones and Cafe Tacuba, respectively - plus scores more, will take part in a sprawling festival corralled under the title “Latin Alternative Music Conference.” Tonight through Saturday, the city plays host to the event, which features bands that all pledge allegiance to something proudly vague.”
