Knowledge is Power!

“The good news is that Chicagoans have a great opportunity to see, in two fascinating new exhibits at the National Museum of Mexican Art and the Museum of Contemporary Art, how the art of Mexico has evolved over the past half-century.

The bad news is that between the mid-20th century in NMMA’s “Women Artists of Modern Mexico: Fridas Contemporaries” and the present day in MCA’s “Escultura Social: A New Generation of Art from Mexico City,” Mexican art can seem to have lost much of its soul.

The contrast between the two shows — which are being cross-promoted by the two museums, where they continue through Sept. 2 — is striking.”
