“The Community Foundation of Central Florida, an Orlando-based philanthropic foundation with national ties, announced that Rafael Rafo Saldaña, President of R-G Crown Bank, has been selected to join the Foundation’s Board of Directors. Saldaña joins a prestigious group of philanthropic, business and community leaders whose mission is to advance philanthropy in Central Florida.

Saldaña, 47, who today serves as President of R-G Crown Bank, has a diversified history of community involvement. With an MBA in Accounting, Finance, Operations and Industrial Relations from the prestigious JL Kellogg Graduate School of Management, Northwestern University, Evanston, Ill. and an undergraduate degree in Economics from the University of Puerto Rico in Rio Piedras; Saldaña is a meld of intellect and compassion and uses both to the advantage of his employers and the communities where he lives and works.

As his career has taken him to different cities across the United States and Puerto Rico, Saldaña has left his mark in each new location.

While serving as Business Director of Capital One Financial Corporation in Tampa he became involved with the Museum of Science and Industry MOSI Hispanic Scientist Award and also with the Hillsborough County Sheriff Department’s project, Proyecto Zapatos. “Proyecto Zapatos was a project to ensure school age children had shoes, and could focus on their education,” said Saldaña. “It was one of the most gratifying projects.”

In the state of Minnesota, during his time as Vice President and General Manager at Fingerhut Co. / Federated Department Stores he again worked on causes near and dear to his heart with the Chicano Latino Affairs Council of the State in Minnesota.

His career has also included the position of Senior Vice President at Fleet Financial Group in Boston, Mass., and as Senior Vice President and Group Executive for Wachovia Corporation in Winston-Salem, N.C.

However, his eyes light up when you talk about the successful campaign “Para Vivir por El Libro Estudia con Tus Hijos” featuring Jaime Escalante in Puerto Rico. “This was a project focused on getting parents personally involved in the daily education of their children and on their schools,” said Saldaña.
