NÚñez defends governor’s advice on learning English – California

“On the issue of whether immigrants who want to learn English should tune out Spanish-language media, the Assembly speaker who grew up in San Diego and Tijuana is giving some cover to the governor from Austria.

Gov. Arnold Schwarzenegger received national publicity, some critical, when he told a meeting of Latino journalists last week that being forced to speak English helps immigrants learn the language faster. Specifically, the governor recommended avoiding media in languages other than English.”
