“When you think of hot foreign imports these days, the Prius, “Harry Potter” and maybe Rihanna come to mind. Theyre all going to have to scoot over and make a place at the international table for the latest trendy concoction: Mexican Coca-Cola. Bottled in glass and made with cane sugar rather than the high-fructose corn syrup used in most American Classic Coca-Cola, the soda from south of the border has proven a steady-enough seller in California and the Southwest that some large chains have begun to stock it. Its also available online, including giant Internet retailer Amazon.com.
Bob Phillips, a spokesman for the Coca-Cola Bottling Co. of California, said the bottler has distributed the Mexican version for years: “We are a business that responds to consumer demand. Theres tremendous loyalty towards Mexican Coca-Cola.”
