Visit eye-opener for Mexican delegation – Canada
Tagged: CanadaPosted on: June 18th, 2007“A group of Mexican politicians sit in a van outside a Niagara winery watching people getting off a tour bus. Its a balmy Saturday afternoon in Niagara-on-the-Lake and the sightseers shade their eyes from the sun and smile as they take in the landscape. But inside the van, the politicians are getting some bad news about Ontarios wine country.
Eduardo Munoz, a Niagara-based union worker, is telling the four Mexican congressmen how seasonal migrant workers from their own country help make all this possible. For some the work is fair and good, providing a much larger paycheque than they could ever hope to earn doing similar work back home. But for too many, says Munoz, the sacrifices they are asked to make here are great.”
