Transition to America lost in the translation – But Rockies endeavor to ease culture shock – (baseball)
Tagged: Baseball, Colorado, Denver, PanamaPosted on: June 18th, 2007“On the mound, Rockies setup man Manny Corpas seems fearless. Off the field, the 24-year-old is quiet and shy, a product of Panama City, Panama, where he grew up extremely poor. He is still learning to speak English and negotiate his way around a major-league locker room and American cities.
“Yes, I think its important for me to learn,” Corpas said, using assistant clubhouse director Joe Diaz to translate. “With the little bit of English I know, its enough for me to mix in a little bit. I feel comfortable here, but I want to learn more.”"
