As local Hispanic Summit nears, poll shows split on immigration – Orlando
Tagged: Florida, OrlandoPosted on: June 17th, 2007“Whites and Hispanics in Central Florida stand on opposite sides of the national chasm over immigration reform, according to a new poll released today in advance of next weeks Hispanic Summit.
A majority of Hispanics see immigrants as an asset to society, while non-Hispanic whites tend to view them as a threat to the future. Hispanics contend immigrants are eager to assimilate into American society and learn English. Whites say they are less likely to assimilate than previous generations, dont want to learn English, and are a burden on schools and hospitals.”
