Downs’ south: Mexican-American singer inspired border crossing
Tagged: border, MexicoPosted on: June 12th, 2007“Immigration and all the gut-wrenching issues and controversies that go along with it have been part of Lila Downs’ life and music for years.
So much so that the singer, who grew up in Mexico and the United States and who has a Mexican-Indian mother and Scottish-American father, is ready to make a new album that brings the heat down a notch.
“It’s going to be about healing,” said Downs, who performs two shows Wednesday at the Museum of Fine Arts. “There’s a tradition of shamans in Mexico, these amazing women who I want to pay tribute to who heal people through herbs and mushrooms and other means.” “
