CMA Festival Celebrates Hispanic Musics Influence On Country

“Texas country singer Rick Trevino gently plucks the strings of his guitar as he sings an old Mexican folk song his father used to play for him when he was a boy.

Its a hushed moment, but few of the 400 or so people at the Schermerhorn Symphony Center recognize a word Trevino is singing because hardly any of them are Hispanic.

Sponsored by the Nashville Symphony, Wednesday’s Streets of Laredo concert was one of a handful of events this week celebrating the Hispanic roots of country music as the Country Music Association began its annual four-day festival.”
