Educators using summer to mend broken English

“Teachers spend the entire school year trying to immerse their non-English-speaking students in the language. But once summer starts, most of those children return to homes and neighborhoods where people do not speak English.

Educators say the two-month lapse puts those students behind in their language skills, and can hurt their progress in other subjects. So this summer, Manatee educators are trying to prevent that slide with a new summer school class.”
